Applications are now open for the Kenya Artificial Intelligence Accelerator Programme 2026, a national initiative launched by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE), the Technopolis Development Authority (TDA), and UNDP Kenya. The programme is designed to identify and support safe, high-impact AI solutions that strengthen public-service delivery and accelerate Kenya's transition to a green economy.
Program Pathways & Eligibility
- Public-Service Delivery AI: Open to Kenyan public institutions, universities and research institutions, and startups and innovators.
- GreenTech & Environmental AI: Open to startups and innovators, as well as universities and research institutions.
General Application Requirements
- Legal Status: Applicants must be legally established or formally recognized in Kenya.
- Project Scope: Submit a clearly defined problem under one program pathway, detailing intended beneficiaries and the case for using AI.
- Value & Data: Outline expected social, economic, or environmental value, along with a credible data access and preparation plan.
- Compliance & Governance: Designate a responsible focal point or team and demonstrate compliance with Kenyan legal, regulatory, data-protection, and IP frameworks.
- Participation: Commit to technical assistance, monitoring, and responsible AI reviews throughout the programme.
Specific Criteria for GreenTech Startups & Innovators
- Operational Status: Must be legally registered in Kenya, with a clear ownership structure and a committed core team.
- Product Readiness: Solution must feature a prototype or Minimum Viable Product (MVP) in which AI plays a central role.
- Market & Regulatory Alignment: Applicants should demonstrate understanding of their target users, basic corporate governance, and existing or planned regulatory licenses and data access plans.
