The Young Africa Innovates Programme, a joint initiative by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Mastercard Foundation has officially opened applications for Cohort 2. The program supports young Nigerian innovators by helping them incubate and scale solutions to local challenges.
Program Targets & Eligibility
Cohort 2 expands across 7 target states: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Katsina, Niger, Plateau, and Taraba.
- Eligibility: Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old and reside in one of the 7 participating states.
- Inclusivity Goals: Targets include 80% participation by women and 10% by persons with disabilities.
- Sector Focus: The initiative is sector-agnostic, welcoming for-profit solutions from any field that show proof of concept, scalability, and job creation potential.
Program Phases
- Pipeline Activation: State-wide call for applications to source youth-led ideas.
- Bootcamp (Sept–Oct 2026): Shortlisted innovators undergo intensive training to refine their business models and pitches.
- Incubation (Nov 2026–Jan 2027): 400 selected ventures receive hands-on mentorship and resources.
- Market Access: Graduating ventures are connected with capital and broader markets for scale.
