Dangote Cement, Ibese, Ogun State, has sanctioned more than 250 truck drivers for various safety violations between 2025 and 2026 as part of an ongoing effort to enhance road safety and maintain operational integrity. Head of Human Resources Muhammed Al-Hassan disclosed during a press briefing that the company operates a strict policy against safety breaches, terminating 200 drivers in 2025 and dismissals of over 50 additional drivers in 2026. A dedicated disciplinary committee reviews each case and metes out consequences based on the severity of the offence, which ranges from speeding and illegal haulage to involvement in minor or major accidents and unauthorized proxy driving.
To enforce these standards across its fleet of over 4,000 trucks, the company relies heavily on modern technology. Head of Operations David Idiege noted that trucks are equipped with in-cab cameras and state-of-the-art telematics to monitor driver behavior in real time. Beyond internal disciplinary actions, the company takes a firm legal stance against severe infractions particularly those resulting in crashes or fatalities by prosecuting fleeing drivers in court and holding their registered guarantors accountable. To prevent misattribution, the company also clarified that older trucks previously owned or leased to third-party customers have been fully de-branded and are managed independently by those external clients.

Alongside strict disciplinary protocols, Dangote Cement actively incentivizes compliant driving. Drivers who maintain a clean record free of accidents or safety violations are recognized on a monthly basis. Exceptional performers are celebrated annually on the company's Safety Day, where they receive certificates and are appointed as safety ambassadors to help train their fellow drivers, fostering a culture of safety across the organization's logistics operations.
