The Institute for AI Policy and Strategy (IAPS) is accepting applications for its Spring 2027 AI Policy Fellowship. The program is designed to cultivate the talent needed to meet the scale of challenges emerging from frontier AI. Fellows embed into the live AI policy field, responding to priority policy windows, and build skills to advance their careers at leading organizations in the space.
Program Tracks
- Research Track: Fellows pair with an IAPS researcher or an external supervisor to produce a substantive piece of AI policy research, from scoping a question through analysis and writing to a publishable output.
- Applied Track: Fellows work with a supervisor on hands-on policy projects that require adaptability to real, evolving situations, suited to those coming from adjacent fields like government, operations, or grantmaking, or researchers moving toward practitioner roles.
Key Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the fellowship, applicants should meet the following:
- Career Interest: Want to develop a career in AI policy and address the implications of frontier AI.
- Background: Applicants with policy, technical, academic, or government backgrounds are strongly recommended, though IAPS is open to a wide variety of backgrounds.
Fellowship Benefits
- Stipend: Senior Fellows receive $24,000 and Fellows receive $18,000 to work full-time over the three-month program.
- Location Bonus: Fellows on the DC or London track receive an additional $3,000 stipend.
- Flexibility: Part-time options are available for exceptional candidates.
- Travel Support: Financial support for travel and accommodation for the two-week D.C. event.
Dates & Location
The fellowship runs February 22 to May 14, 2027. Applicants can choose to be based in D.C., London, or remote, but all fellows must attend the initial in-person event in D.C. from February 22 to March 5, 2027.
