IUCEA Opens Applications for Cohort 4 EAC Master’s Scholarship 2027–2028

The Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) offers 120 fully funded Master’s scholarships for EAC citizens to study in a partner state outside their home country. Funded by the German Development Bank (KfW), the package covers full tuition, airfare, health insurance, a monthly stipend of €380, and one-time study allowances. Applicants must be under 35 with an upper second-class degree.

IUCEA Opens Applications for Cohort 4 EAC Master’s Scholarship 2027–2028

Applications are open for Cohort 4 of the EAC Scholarship Programme, a joint regional initiative funded by the German Development Bank (KfW) and implemented by the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA). Up to 120 fully funded scholarships are available for qualified citizens of the East African Community (EAC) to pursue Master’s degree programs in an EAC Partner State other than their home country.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Tuition Fees: Full tuition covered directly to the host university.
  • Travel: One return economy-class air ticket between your home country and the host country.
  • Monthly Allowance: EUR 380 per month for living expenses, accommodation, meals, and local transport.
  • One-Time Allowances:
  • EUR 200 arrival allowance (opening a EUR-denominated bank account in the host country is encouraged).
  • EUR 650 lump-sum allowance for study materials.
  • EUR 1,500 study and research allowance.
  • Healthcare & Admin Fees: Full medical insurance coverage for the duration of the program, plus entry/visa pass fees where required.
  • Extracurriculars: Opportunity to participate in at least one regional extracurricular event.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a citizen of one of the 8 EAC Partner States.
  • Must be under 35 years of age at the time of application.
  • Academic qualification: A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of Second Class Upper Division, Distinction, or equivalent.
  • Application target: Must apply to study at an eligible partner university in an EAC country outside your country of citizenship.
  • Admissions requirement: Must have already submitted an application for admission to an eligible Master's program at the host institution.
