LagRide has deployed 400 new vehicles across Lagos State to prepare for the expected traffic surge during the 2026 Ember Months, running from September through December. Announced at the 2026 Driver Mobilisation and Fleet Flag-Off at the LagRide Centre in Lagos, the expansion aims to recruit over 1,000 new drivers, known as Captains, by the end of the year. This phased rollout builds on LagRide's existing operational fleet of more than 2,000 vehicles, focusing on reducing passenger wait times and expanding coverage into communities such as FESTAC, Ikorodu, and Ajah, alongside higher driver concentrations in core zones. The ride-hailing service targets facilitating over 200,000 rides during the final quarter, driven by an uptick in business, entertainment, and holiday travel across the state.
To support drivers and maintain service reliability, newly inducted Captains start with a 90-day rental evaluation period, after which high performers can transition into a vehicle-ownership program. Fleet upkeep is backed by CIG Group and GAC Motor facilities throughout Lagos, including a dedicated express service center in Alausa designed to minimize vehicle downtime. Additionally, LagRide operates a 24-hour customer care center to address inquiries, recover lost property, and resolve issues in real time. Executive Director Mildred Ekanem and Chairman Chief Diana Chen emphasized that the deployment expands state transportation capacity, strengthens tourism infrastructure, and offers steady economic opportunities for professional drivers during the city's busiest operational period.
