The Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Area Command, hosted a delegation from the Nigerien Customs to discuss strategies for enhancing legitimate trade along the Kamba–Tungan Gyado border corridor. The meeting aimed to boost government revenue while providing economic relief to border communities facing trade disruptions. Nigerien representative Abdoulaye Vincent, Comptroller of Douanes du Dosso, noted that ongoing insecurity along trade routes through Burkina Faso and Togo, alongside diplomatic friction with the Benin Republic, made the Kamba corridor an essential path for regional commerce. He urged Nigeria to facilitate increased exports through this border to sustain local livelihoods and generate much-needed economic activity.
In response, Kebbi Area Controller Mahmoud Ibrahim reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to facilitating cross-border trade, promising to educate stakeholders on customs compliance and drive greater commercial use of the route. Ibrahim emphasized that increasing trade flow through Kamba would stimulate employment, generate revenue, and improve living standards for nearby communities. To further solidify this partnership, the Command announced plans for an official follow-up visit to the Nigerien Customs Command in Dosso. Local leadership and business groups, including Sarkin Shikon Kamba, Mamuda Zarumai, and SNAT Gaya Secretary-General, Abubakar Inusa, expressed strong support for the initiative, commending the joint commitment to community welfare and economic stability.
