Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to Launch Renewable Asset Management Company (RAMCO)

Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is set to launch the Renewable Asset Management Company (RAMCO) on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in Abuja, marking a strategic shift toward long-term investment and sustainability in the country’s renewable energy sector. According to REA Managing Director Abubakar Aliyu, RAMCO addresses a critical need for sustainable energy financing by establishing a specialized platform designed to connect distributed renewable infrastructure with long-term private capital. Capitalizing on Nigeria’s growing developer ecosystem, abundant solar potential, and the regulatory framework established by the Electricity Act 2023, the initiative moves the national focus beyond initial infrastructure deployment toward long-term asset productivity and capital recycling.

By structured refinancing of mature renewable assets, RAMCO aims to reuse capital for new electrification projects, thereby reducing reliance on government budgets, sovereign debt, and international development finance. The company will oversee the continuous lifecycle maintenance and replacement of essential components like solar panels, batteries, and inverters, while also managing revenue collection, operator performance, and customer demand to ensure overall financial health. Ultimately, RAMCO aims to mobilize private investment to restore distressed assets and secure the continuous, productive operation of Nigeria's expanding clean energy network.
