The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has distanced itself from a fuel tanker intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State carrying 2,145 kg of hidden cannabis.
In an official statement issued by Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh, the national oil company clarified that preliminary findings confirm the vehicle (registration number MKA 960 XC) is neither owned by NNPC Ltd. nor affiliated with its fleet or authorised distribution network.
Although the intercepted tanker carried NNPC markings, the company noted that the branding featured an outdated logo that does not align with its current corporate identity. Furthermore, the truck is not registered in the company's asset database.
To determine how its former logo came to be displayed on the vehicle, NNPC is collaborating with the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO). The company emphasized that it takes brand misuse seriously especially when linked to illegal activities and will cooperate fully with the NDLEA and other security agencies during the ongoing investigation.

NNPC is also reviewing its brand protection and asset monitoring procedures, warning that it will take legal action against any unauthorized use of its corporate identity. The public and relevant agencies have been advised to verify the authenticity of any vehicles claiming NNPC affiliation through official channels.
Concluding the statement, NNPC commended the NDLEA for its vigilance in combating drug trafficking and reaffirmed its support for the agency's efforts.
