Financial stability during university can be the ultimate deciding factor in whether a young person completes their degree or drops out. Addressing these persistent tuition hurdles, OPay has announced a major expansion of its N1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship initiative, broadening its coverage to a total of 41 tertiary institutions nationwide.
The program originally launched as a long-term pledge to support students across 20 higher learning institutions. However, following the recent signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with Miva Open University, the network has now grown to 25 partner schools. Partnering with Miva integrates a modern, technology-enabled learning model into the program, making financial aid accessible to students pursuing non-traditional educational paths alongside those in standard university settings.
Unlike typical short-term corporate donations or one-off hand-outs, the OPay Scholars Programme is structured as a decade-long funding framework designed to provide multi-year security. This comprehensive ecosystem runs alongside other youth development programs, including the OPay National Innovation Challenge organized in partnership with Google and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative as well as OPay Futures.

Looking ahead, the fintech company plans to bring 16 more tertiary institutions on board by the end of 2026 to reach its 41-school goal. By establishing a reliable, long-term foundation for higher education, OPay aims to ease the burden on struggling families while empowering the next generation of engineers, healthcare workers, technology experts, and community leaders.
