Princeton in Africa (PiAf) is now accepting applications for its 2027/2028 year-long paid post-graduate fellowship program. PiAf pairs young leaders with international and local organizations operating across the African continent to foster skill exchange, leadership, and technical expertise.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria at the time of application:
- Education: Hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree from a 4-year U.S.-accredited university or a locally accredited African university (or be a graduating senior completing their degree by June 2027).
- Age & Passport: Born on or after September 1, 1992 (maximum 35 years old during the fellowship) and hold a passport valid for at least 6 months past the fellowship end date.
- Language Proficiency: C1 level or higher English proficiency under CEFR. French or Portuguese skills are preferred for specific posts.
- Academic Status: Must not be enrolled in any graduate, doctoral, or equivalent advanced academic program during the fellowship year.
The Nexus Program
The Nexus Initiative targets African citizens residing on the continent who are recent graduates or graduating seniors of an African university. It connects local talent directly with high-impact host organizations across Africa to strengthen organizational capacity and cross-fellowship exchange.

- On-the-ground living expenses, including housing and a stipend
- Medical, medical evacuation, and security evacuation insurance
- Certain visa and work permit fees
- Mid-year retreat in Africa (covering meals, housing, activities, and a partial travel grant)
Expenses Covered by the Fellow:
- $350 nonrefundable program placement fee upon accepting a post
- Round-trip air travel to and from the host country (depending on the post)
- Pre-departure medical expenses (immunizations, malaria prevention, personal medications, clearance clinic visits)
- Visa or work permit costs not covered by the host organization
- Personal recreational travel, daily sundries, and remaining travel costs for the mid-year retreat
