The Harvard University Center for the Environment (HUCE) created the Environmental Fellows program to enable recent doctorate recipients to use and expand Harvard's resources to tackle complex environmental issues. Fellows work for two years with Harvard faculty members in any school or department, forming a community of researchers that strengthens connections across the university.
Key Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirement:
- Academic Qualification: Must hold a doctorate or comparable terminal degree awarded between May 2023 and August 2027.
Fellowship Benefits
- Salary: $92,000 per year.
- Health Insurance: Eligibility for employee health insurance.
- Relocation: Up to $2,500 reimbursement for relocation expenses.
- Professional Allowance: $2,500 annual allowance for travel and other professional expenses.

- The project proposal's independence from the candidate's PhD work and the host's ongoing research, and its relevance to environmental issues.
- Diversity of the selected cohort, which draws candidates from the sciences, economics, law, government, public policy, public health, medicine, design, and the humanities.
- For Harvard-affiliated candidates: the proposal must move in new directions significantly distinct from their current PhD research or affiliations.
- The host faculty member's enthusiasm for the project and their ability to mentor the fellow and provide office space.
- A subset of applicants will be invited to a video interview with the selection committee.
