The WCSJ Travel Fellowship 2027 is an opportunity for journalists, journalism students, and students in related fields who want to attend the World Conference of Science Journalists 2027 in London. The fellowship aims to support individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to limited funding in their countries or organisations, helping participants gain experience, connect with international professionals, and become part of the science journalism community. The conference takes place in London from September 6-9, 2027, and welcomes journalists and media professionals covering science and related fields, including engineering, climate, and health, as well as students studying journalism, media studies, and science communication.
Key Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Profession: Be a journalist or media professional covering science-related fields, or a researcher, lecturer, or teacher in journalism, media studies, or science communication with a proven track record. Journalism does not need to be an exclusive focus, but must be part of the applicant's professional work.
- Students: Be studying science journalism, journalism, media studies, science communication, or related fields, and be of legal age in their home country and able to travel independently.
- Availability: Be available to attend the entire conference.
- Visa & Passport: Check whether a UK Standard Visitor visa is required, and hold a passport valid until end of September 2027, or provide evidence of an application for one.
- Language: Be able to complete the application and supporting documents in English (AI-assisted translations accepted if original versions are also provided).
- Financial Need: Demonstrate a need for additional financial support to attend.
- Portfolio: Be able to provide examples of published journalistic work.
Applicants from low-income and lower-middle-income countries receive additional consideration, based on World Bank income classifications.
